![]() ![]() I don’t ever see the need to take a picture in the “live view” function, but having the option to take hd video is nice. Sure its gimmicky, but its kinda neat as you could quickly convert your pictures to black and white, straighten the picture, or create a “fisheye” effect. I also like the ability to create custom picture quality settings so I can easily/quickly access them to create the effect I want (i.e. This is important to me as I take a lot of indoor shots. I took indoor portrait shots with the ISO cranked up to 3200 and they still came out good. I did not run any technical tests as I would I have no idea how to do them or interpret the results but based on my unscientific “eyeball” tests, the quality is great. Previously, on the D70s I had to zoom in to check my pictures after each shot but the new LCD screen is magnificent! I think I read somewhere the resolution on the LCD is equivalent to hd, but i’m not positive. The biggest noticeable difference for me was the huge LCD screen and how clear and crisp the pictures look. Sure you won’t have the ability to shoot up to 6 fps and the better build (albeit heavier) body of the D300, but for $600 cheaper I couldn’t justify the D300 over the D90. For an average enthusiast the D90 offers very similar quality as the D300 plus the ability to shoot live video in HD.
